Greater Philadelphia offers a wide range of public and private K-12 schools – traditional public schools, magnet public schools centered around a specific curriculum, religious schools and independent private schools. The diversity of the educational opportunities available for K-12 students provides parents with a wide range of choices in selecting the schools that best meet the educational needs of their children, their income, and their values.

  • In its annual ranking of the country's high schools, Newsweek magazine ranked several Bucks and Montgomery institutions among the top 500 in the nation for 2011. Council Rock North came in at 246; Central Bucks East came in at 255; Central Bucks West at 274; Council Rock South at 314 and North Penn at 425.
  • 125 public school districts provide the Greater Philadelphia region with a total of 1,350 schools.
  • Vocational-technical high schools are available in every Greater Philadelphia county.
  • 1,240 private and religious schools offer programs from pre-K through grade 12.
  • New Jersey and Pennsylvania made the top 10 in Morgan Quintos Press’s fifth annual Smartest State Award, which is published in the reference book “Education State Rankings 2006-2007.”
  • In May 2006, Expansion Management ranked Greater Philadelphia's public schools the fifth best in the nation.
