Philly Places in Top 20 Cities for Venture Capital

Compiled with data from the National Venture Capital Association, The Atlantic recently assembled a list of the top 20 cities for venture capital investment. Philadelphia came in at number 11 ahead of Denver, Atlanta, Minneapolis, Phoenix, and Santa Barbara among others. Philadelphia has collected 1.3 percent of the total capital earned with $347 million in venture capital. A total of $6.2 billion comes from the combined amount in the corridor between Washington, D.C., and Boston.

Frontier Airlines Launches Non-stop Service from Wilmington/Philadelphia New Castle Airport to 5 U.S. Destinations

Frontier Airlines launched non-stop service from Wilmington/Philadelphia New Castle Airport in Wilmington, DE, (ILG) to Chicago-Midway, Denver, Houston, Orlando, and Tampa, as well as connecting service via Denver to destinations across the West. Frontier is now the only airline providing scheduled service from Wilmington/Philadelphia Airport and the only airline flying commercial service from Delaware. Non-stop service to Fort Myers will start on November 16, 2013.

Microsoft Corp. Selects Philadelphia to be a Showcase City for its CityNext Initiative

Philadelphia is one of 13 cities worldwide and the only one in North America to be chosen for the initiative. As a showcase city, Philadelphia will receive at least three years of priority attention and support from Microsoft and the companies that work with the software giant to help it speed up its ability to adopt innovative technologies.

The Pennsylvania Legislature recently passed a 2013-14 general appropriation budget bill that includes a measure to establish a new innovative PA Tax Credit Program. This program provides a new and predictable source of funding for early-stage capital investment through Ben Franklin Technology Partners, the Venture Investment Program and the Life Sciences Greenhouses.
