Rankings looked at the country’s 100-largest metro areas and were based on seven factors: shopping, food and drink, culture, popular entertainment, gambling, high-impact sports (skiing, fitness centers, recreation centers) and low-impact sports (golf, bowling centers, marinas).
Rounding out the top 10 were San Francisco, Seattle, Portland (Maine), Philadelphia and Minneapolis.
Some well-known party towns, including New Orleans (13) and Las Vegas (26), ranked lower in certain categories, including low-impact sports.
Ranking last was Provo, Utah, behind McAllen, Texas; Modesto and Bakersfield, Calif.; and El Paso.
