CEO Council Welcomes Philadelphia's New Mayor

Philadelphia's Mayor Michael Nutter offered comments at The CEO Council for Growth's most recent quarterly meeting. Mayor Nutter described his top priorities to make the City of Philadelphia a more business friendly location and reiterated his commitment to being a key regional leader. His priorities include improving the tax climate, education system, transportation infrastructure and fostering economic opportunities for City residents.  He made it clear that he is committed to reducing crime, furthering regional efforts to achieve policy and funding changes in Harrisburg and Washington, DC that support Philadelphia 's growth and moving along the expansion of the Pennsylvania Convention Center.  He also outlined several requests for the business community to support his administration.  He asked that businesses support young people through internship and mentoring opportunities and assist in the rebranding and marketing of the City to change the story that is being told about Philadelphia.  The CEO Council for Growth expressed enthusiasm to work with the new Mayor to help him achieve his goals and also requested that he focus attention on improving the condition and service delivery by SEPTA and at Philadelphia International Airport (PHL).

Other highlights from the meeting included an update from each of the three working group chairs – Thomas A. Caramanico, P.E., President, McCormick Taylor, Inc., Chair, Infrastructure Working Group; Anthony J. Conti, Office Managing Partner, PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP, Chair, Human Capital Working Group; and Russel E. Kaufman, M.D., President & CEO, The Wistar Institute, Chair, Venture Capital and Commercialization Working Group.
