CREATING OPPORTUNITY FOR  YOUNG PEOPLE

The Greater Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce (GPCC) is doing its part to provide youth with the training and development they need to become a part of  our region's  workforce. GPCC is working hard to identify 2,000 internships for Philadelphia young people this summer by encouraging all regional employers to either offer an internship at their workplace or fund a position at a non-profit.   Last summer, the Chamber's efforts helped identify 1,049 positions, thanks to the support of 138 regional businesses, foundations, and non-profit organizations. We need your participation to double the number of internships  for this summer and make this program a success.

Details on the Internship Program:

  • Internships last for six weeks beginning on June 30th.
  • Each position costs the employer about $1,600, which includes intern salary and program administration.
  • Interns work at least 20 hours per week Monday through Thursday and attend professional development programs offsite on Fridays.
  • Internships are open to Philadelphia students who will enter 11th grade or higher in the fall. All students are pre-screened and pre-qualified.
  • Internships are coordinated by the Philadelphia Youth Network through WorkReady Philadelphia, a broad based partnership dedicated to building the region's future workforce.

If you can't host an intern at your worksite, you can fund an internship at a Philadelphia non-profit – and even designate which organization you want to help.
