One Philadelphia Icon Meets Another — Tasty Baking Company Heads to Philadelphia Navy Yard

Tasty Baking Company has started construction on a new state-of-the-art bakery to be located at The Philadelphia Navy Yard.

Tasty Baking Company announced its plans to relocate its corporate headquarters and Philadelphia operations to a location at the Navy Yard last year. The new facility will be on 25 acres just inside the gates at the Navy Yard, in the area known as the Navy Yard Commerce Center. The 345,000 square foot facility will be the site of production, warehousing and distribution of baked goods, and will open in late 2009 with hopes to be fully operational by mid 2010.

"This project continues to be a terrific example of teamwork" said Bill Fisher, project manager for Liberty Property Trust, which is developing the project. "The Philadelphia Industrial Development Corporation, the Philadelphia Water Department and Philadelphia Licensing and Inspection have worked closely with Liberty/Synterra and Tasty Baking to move this project forward."

Tasty Baking Company, producer of the iconic Philadelphia brand Tastykake, was founded in Philadelphia in 1914 and is one of the country’s leading bakers of snack cakes, pies, cookies, and donuts.
