US Airways Offers First-Ever Daily Nonstop Service to the Middle East from Philly

US Airways (NYSE:LCC) now offers new, daily nonstop flying to Tel Aviv from its international gateway at Philadelphia International Airport, linking the two sister cities and bolstering travel options between Israel and the United States.
New Airbus A330-200 aircraft with seating for 20 in Envoy—US Airways' trans-Atlantic business class—and 238 in the main cabin will operate the year-round flying. The route will also be the longest in the US Airways system at more than 5,700 miles.

The PNC Foundation Provides $1 Million in Grants to 23 Greater Philadelphia Groups
Area residents will have more opportunities to enjoy the visual and performing arts through grants from the PNC Foundation to 23 local arts organizations.
The combined $1 million in grants will increase access to the arts through free public performances, ticket subsidies, innovative programming for young audiences and education outreach for underserved people.

University City Science Center Taps Three New Companies, Four New Board Members

The Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) and the GADORE Center USA have established U.S. offices at the University City Science Center on 3711 Market Street. The National Center for Patient Interactive Research (CPIR) has begun operations at the University City Science Center's Port business incubator located at 3701 Market Street in Philadelphia.
The Science Center also announced the appointment of four new members to its Board of Directors at its annual Shareholders Meeting on June 12th.

Ramin Shiekhattar, PH.D., Named to the Herbert Kean, M.D., Family Professorship at the Wistar Institute
Ramin Shiekhattar, Ph.D., a leading expert in the biochemical mechanisms of gene expression, has been appointed to the Herbert Kean, M.D., Family Professorship at The Wistar Institute, the nation's oldest independent biomedical research institute and a National Cancer Institute–designated Cancer Center since 1972.
Shiekhattar rejoins Wistar's full-time faculty in its Gene Expression and Regulation Program after two years as an ICREA Professor at the Center for Genomic Regulation (CRG) in Barcelona, Spain.

DuPont recently announced plans with the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) for a $9 million solar research program --- part of the company's overall effort in providing more mainstream solar photovoltaic (PV) products for commercial and residential applications.
The DOE funding comes from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, passed earlier this year with the support of U.S. Senators Tom Carper and Ted Kaufman.

ComputerWorld Ranks University of Penn Among the Top Best Places to Work in IT
The University of Pennsylvania was ranked by ComputerWorld Magazine as the 4th among 100 best places to work in IT across the nation.
The publication's 2009 survey collected workplace data from employers, plus satisfaction ratings from more than 27,000 IT workers to rank the top 100 organizations.
Also making the top 100 list was
Valley Forge-based Vanguard Group, Inc. and Center City-based Temple University.

Almac Group Hires Aggressively in Greater Philadelphia to Fill New $112 Million HQ
The Almac Group has hired 150 professionals within the past six months, bringing its current U.S. workforce to nearly 900 – with 670 employees based in the Greater Philadelphia region. The company is actively recruiting to fill 70 additional positions in the area, some of them senior-level professional and technical jobs. Globally, Almac employs 2,400.

Philadelphia Remains Home of the Army/Navy Game
Philadelphia officials celebrated the announcement that the City will remain the home of the Army/Navy Game through 2017. The announcement was made by the U.S. Naval Academy and U.S. Military Academy, concluding a 9-month bid process which generated significant competition among several cities vying for future games.
