WILMINGTON ANNOUNCES ANNUAL $10K BUSINESS PLAN COMPETITION Program helps support small, women and minority-owned businesses Mayor Baker and the Wilmington Office of Economic Development announced the City's 6th Annual Mega BizFest Business Plan Competition, in which aspiring and existing entrepreneurs can compete for up to $10,000 in prize money and business support services for their small businesses. The competition is part of the City's Mega BizFest program—a series of unique events and initiatives geared toward supporting and empowering small, women and minority-owned businesses at all stages of development. The Mega BizFest Business Plan Competition is open to any individual or small business owner who has previously participated in a small business training program in the State of Delaware. Entrepreneurs and future business leaders can compete in one of three categories: Emerging Entrepreneurs (up to four years in business); Existing Enterprises (four to eight years in business); and Established Businesses (eight years and more in business). Entries for the qualifying round competition will be accepted between now and July 31, 2010. Entries will be evaluated by a panel of judges comprised of entrepreneurs, venture capitalists, bankers, and other business professionals. Finalists will present their plans to the judges and attendees of Mega BizFest on October 6, 2010, with winners announced at the DBE Achievement Annual Awards luncheon the next day. The Mega BizFest Business Plan Competition is co-sponsored by the Mayor's Office of Economic Development (Office of Small and Minority Business Enterprises) and the Mega BizFest Committee—a consortium of small business resource organizations.
